Asbury's recent benefit concert raised money for UMCOR's Puerto Rican relief efforts.

On the evening December 1, Asbury Methodist Village's Rosborough Theater was filled with beautiful sights and sounds as we hosted a benefit concert for Puerto Rico featuring the Bel Cantanti Opera, Olney Ballet Theater, and the Four Seasons Dancers. See performance images below.

For one of the performers, this was an intensely personal performance. Bel Cantanti mezzo soprano Anamer Castrello lost all contact with her mother and brother and his family following the hurricane. “I try to talk to them every day," Castrello says. "After Maria, I lost all contact with my family. You see all those horrible images on TV and you don’t know if your family is safe or not.”

It was in support of families like this one that Dr. Katerina Souvorova of Bel Cantanti put the word out on Facebook for performers to come together for a collaborative concert. Every number was outstanding and the curtain call brought the audience to their feet, not for the first time.

Most happily, we raised just over $3,000, which was sent to the United Methodist Committee On Relief, UMCOR, for Puerto Rican hurricane relief efforts.

Thank you to the many residents who enthusiastically supported this event, and thank you to the associates who helped make it such a success.
