GAITHERSBURG, Md. – Asbury Methodist Village has launched a new not-for-profit home services agency assisting older persons who wish to age in place safely and independently.
Called Asbury Methodist Village at Home, the agency is located on the continuing care retirement community’s campus and is an expansion of a successful on-campus home care service that began in 1998. Now those same services also are available to persons living outside of Asbury Methodist Village in Montgomery County.
Asbury Methodist Village at Home has a staff of 64 that includes five nurses and 57 caregivers. It delivers services for clients age 55-plus ranging from help with housekeeping and transportation to the kinds of companion, personal care and medical management services often provided in an assisted living setting. All services operate under a state license and are performed by trained and certified aides, nurses and care team members, all cleared through background checks. At its helm is Amy Ostrolenk, M.A., R.N., who began overseeing Asbury’s on-campus home care services and developing wellness programs for the community’s 1,300-plus residents in 2008.
Ostrolenk is highly regarded in Maryland’s senior services field. She contributed to the “Promoting Emotional Health and Preventing Suicide: A Toolkit for Senior Living Communities,” developed by the state Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. She also served on a Maryland task force that set protocols for capturing advance directives in a new form called Medical Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment.
“We’re excited to take our extensive experience providing caring, quality personal care services to residents of Asbury Methodist Village into the surrounding community,” Ostrolenk says. “We support clients’ desire to age in place safely and comfortably. We can really make a difference in someone’s day.”
Asbury Methodist Village is a CARF-CCAC- and EAGLE-accredited continuing care retirement community that is part of Asbury, an organization providing management and life-enhancing services for older adults. Asbury Methodist Village at Home offers personal care services to Asbury residents and those living in Montgomery County. It is operated by Asbury Communities HCBS, Inc., an affiliate of Asbury, which is ranked by LeadingAge and Ziegler Capital Markets Group’s AZ 100 as the 15th-largest not-for-profit multi-site senior living organization in the country.
