GAITHERSBURG, Md -- Asbury Methodist Village (AMV), a continuing care retirement community located in Montgomery County, Maryland, is honored to become the first community of its kind in the state to achieve cultural competency certification through SAGECare as it relates to serving those in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. In June 2018, AMV achieved Bronze level certification, and is scheduled to accomplish the highest level of certification, Platinum, later this summer.
SAGECare (www.sageusa.care) is a division of SAGE, the country’s oldest and longest organization dedicated to improving the lives of LGBT older adults. SAGECare provides lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) competency training and consulting on LGBT aging issues to service providers.
The criteria that Asbury Methodist Village satisfied to achieve Bronze Certification include:
-On-demand training for 20% of Asbury Methodist Village Staff
-SAGECare will provide Asbury Methodist Village with a video file for the “Creating Inclusive Communities” course to host on the Asbury Methodist Village Relias system, and the license to use that file to train 160 employees. The course covers
