Asbury Methodist Village is abloom each spring.

For residents of Asbury Methodist Village, the latest Forbes ranking of Gaithersburg as one of the 25 best places in the country to retire is not surprising. The more than 1,300 residents of Asbury are already aware of all the benefits offered by its close proximity  to Washington, D.C . The Shady Grove Metro station and the MARC train are minutes away. The Forbes article noted that Gaithersburg is “[N]ineteen miles northwest of Washington and thus outside the Beltway, has rush-hour rail service to D.C. while sitting near the end of the capitol's subway system. Hospital and college campuses nearby.” Forbes also considered such factors as the unemployment rate and job growth, serious crime rates, taxes for retirees and air quality.

Asbury residents are within easy walking distance of many shops and services, including Lakeforest Mall. On campus, a 17-acre Wildlife Preserve boasts walking trails, a large pond and wooded areas filled with mature trees and songbirds.

“With easy access to an extensive transportation system, enriching cultural and educational programs both locally and regionally, a lively new dining scene, and a number of new neighborhoods currently under construction that suit an active retirement lifestyle, Gaithersburg is an ideal place to spend your entire life,” said Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney Katz.

And Asbury residents agree.
